Carnegie Centre
of Excellence Mental Health
Our Vision
We do this through
- Developing whole school thinking: Embedding good mental health/social and emotional wellbeing/resilience across the curriculum – through our Personal Development and Tutoring programme
- Development and training of staff including early identification of needs.
- Greater partnership/collaboration with external partners in health and social care:
- As children and young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health affects all aspects of their lives, no one service alone will be able to meet all their needs. A key ingredient of our success in supporting students’ mental health is to develop collaborative arrangements with external partners, including out work with the Mental Health Support Team in Redbridge.
- Our partnership works includes training for all staff, support for individual young people and families and supporting leadership in prioritising strategic direction.
TFA achieves the Carnegie Centre of Excellence Mental Health Silver Award for Schools
We are delighted that the school has been recognised as providing excellent support for the young people that attend The Forest Academy. The wellbeing of our students at The Forest Academy (TFA) is highly valued and the heart of our vision and ethos.
The award is not only about this commitment but also recognises that the school structures, environment, ethos and culture is one that supports positive mental health and wellbeing, it is a credit to all those who have been involved in creating a great place to learn. The students at TFA are very committed and have been active in promoting positive mental health, acceptance of difference and challenging stigmas for a long time. It is the attitude of the students to the issues around mental health and wellbeing that we are most proud of.
To achieve the GOLD award the school needs to share what it is doing with other schools and start looking at how it can have a greater impact for the wider community.
We teach our students how to maintain their mental health and wellbeing but are also aware of the need to maintain the school as a mentally healthy environment, especially for students who are taking exams this year. At The Forest Academy we believe the link between being healthy, happy and achieving your best is strong. As a school we are focused on students achieving the best grades that they can and committed to supporting our young people in becoming emotionally and mentally healthy young adults.
Well done to all the students and staff at TFA.
