At The Forest Academy, it is our aim to ensure that students are exposed to a variety of music from different cultures and historical periods, in order to have a greater understanding of the world around them. Music is universally used as a form of expression and our intention is to ensure that all students, regardless of their previous experience, are able to express themselves musically through an inclusive and varied curriculum.

The vision of the music department is to develop the students’ skills within 3 main areas: performing, composing and appraising. This will be done by allowing the students to explore a range of musical styles and utilise a variety of instruments and software. Students will also be given the opportunity to take ownership of their own learning and develop their skills in an area of music they have a particular interest in. We aspire to ensure that music becomes part of the wider school community, with opportunities to perform at a variety of events, both in and outside of school. There will also be opportunities for the students to attend trips to performances and workshops in order to broaden their musical horizons outside of the school setting.
