Economics studies how unlimited wants can be satisfied with limited resources. The aim of our diverse and high-quality KS5 curriculum is to develop students’ understanding of how economy works on personal, national, and international levels through analysing and evaluating current affairs. Throughout the course, Economics theory is applied to various historical and modern case studies. Cultural capital forms an integral part of the course, during which different schools of thoughts and their impact on economy are looked at in depth. To complement the schemes of work students are provided with exciting opportunities outside of the classroom, which include various workshops, educational trips, and conferences.
Students are expected to take an interest in current affairs, to have analytical skills, and to be able to logically evaluate the knowledge absorbed. During Year 12 and Year 13 learners will have multiple opportunities to work independently and to collaborate in groups, sharpening their critical thinking. Inter-curriculum approaches are being constantly promoted and as a rule of thumb our students also often study Maths, Business, Psychology, and Geography. We ensure that all students enjoy their learning, while simultaneously being challenged, with extra support and scaffolding always being available to them. All the essential skills and knowledge obtained in Economics will significantly increase students’ chances of getting into the top universities, not to mention their employability. Typical career paths may include Finance, Banking, Data Analysis, Investment, Accountancy, Consultancy, Politics, Public Sector, etc.
