We are a very dedicated and energetic team of language teachers. We believe that languages are becoming increasingly important in the modern world. The skills, knowledge and understanding developed through the delivery of the MFL curriculum are considered vital elements of a student’s all round education and competencies needed to enter the work place. Furthermore, the increased understanding of other cultures helps students to develop a greater tolerance of the wide range of different races, religions and backgrounds that one encounters in modern day society. It can also help us to learn about our own culture.
All students learn either French or Spanish in year 7. Students learn about the world around them, school, family, hobbies, local area as well as the French and Spanish speaking world in general. We encourage students to develop their language skills through games and activities and are committed to keeping the curriculum up to date to further engage students’ learning. At KS4 students increasingly learn to use and adapt complex language in different situations. They are required to take exams in 4 skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. They will be expected to understand authentic texts and translate from French/Spanish into English and English to French/Spanish. Proficiency in a foreign language is becoming increasingly important in our economy and employers value linguistic ability, with people who can speak a foreign language earning on average 20% more than those who only speak one language
