Psychology includes the study of the brain and behaviour; what drives humans to do what they do. The specification studied is the Linear A Level offered by AQA Psychology. In Year 12, candidates will develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the core areas of Psychology – social, cognitive, developmental, biological and individual differences; focusing on topics ranging from social influence and understanding why humans obey, to psychopathology and the characteristics of specific mental disorders. This will be accompanied by research methods in Year 13 where students will learn about issues and debates in Psychology, alongside schizophrenia, aggression i.e. what influences human aggression and relationships, considering factors ranging from evolutionary preferences to modern day dating.

We want to ensure our students develop key skills which will assist them throughout their life, whether it be understanding neuroscience and why we form attachments to refining their communication and oracy skills. This course is delivered with the targeted impact of allowing the development of practical skills such as collaborative learning, effective essay writing and the ability to analyse and evaluate. As a science subject, it is one which is recognised by all Universities and many past students have gone on to study it at a degree level, further pursuing careers in fields where an understanding of human behaviour is beneficial such as Law, Medicine and Personnel Management.
