National Careers Week 2024
TFA led a BIG celebration of National Careers week (NCW) with plenty of events that pupils got involved in both in and outside of school.
Our main event was the Careers Fair which was attended by Transport for London, RAF-Air Cadets, Newham College, Metropolitan Police , Escape Studios – Animation , Prospects, The Big Creative Education, City University, New City College and Hertfordshire University. All students from year 7 to 13 had the opportunity to speak to employers, colleges, universities and apprenticeship providers to inspire and support them in planning their next steps.
All pupils had daily careers personal development during form time and inspiring STEM assembly. Our teachers completed careers door plaques with their individual careers journey which started the conversation with pupils about choices and previous careers.
During the week, we hosted daily after school careers café, an apprenticeship webinar with live vacancies, a Q&A for students interested in apprenticeships and an employability skills workshop for year 11 students.
Our pupils had access to a 5-day NCW virtual careers fair with international and top employers in the UK, they were provided with careers activities on Unifrog (our careers portal) and were encouraged to sign up to BBC Bitesize for themed workshops. Teachers talked about careers in their subject, which allowed our pupils to consider their own strengths, interests and aspirations.
On Friday we celebrated International women’s day, where pupils attended a virtual event with The Bright Network to celebrate women’s achievements, a call for greater gender equality and advice on thriving in careers. We also took a year 9 and 10 girls to Wembley for a diversity trip showing how women can get involved in working within the sports industry and met Lioness and Ex-Arsenal legend Rachel Yankey.
Creative arts pupils had the privilege of being coached by lead singing coach from RADA, Jane Streeton and a group of Year 10 pupils had a Royal Army Day off site where they were amazed to hear about the breadth of careers open to them from medicine to engineering.
All of year 9 had individual careers guidance on their final option selection and we were so proud of their maturity, excellent interpersonal skills and vision for their future careers.
National Careers Week was a great success at TFA in 2024!
